The Birth Companion

Spiky Acupressure Balls

Our story

Birth combs have become popular again in modern birthing. They have been used for centuries as a natural pain relief option. The Birth Companion is the next best thing!

These wooden porcupine spiky balls fit beautifully in the palm of the hand to provide natural pain relief via acupressure or reflexology points.

Research shows that acupressure is “an effective, non-invasive and easily applicable technique to reduce labour pain” and one unique tool that is becoming increasingly popular for practising this is The Birth Companion.

They can also be used on the feet. Kidney 1 acupressure point is in the ball of the foot.

Picked with care

The Porcupine (7cm diameter with sharp spikes) comes in two different wood sorts. The lighter yellowish wood type used is the hardwood, neem, whereas the darker wood is acacia. Both tree sorts have been used since ancient times to create treatments for wounds and skin conditions, and are still used today for toothbrushes or chewing sticks for oral hygiene in India. The Birth Companion balls are hand-crafted and we do take great care in ensuring the exact size, however, it can slightly differ from its intended size of 7cm. Please note: Colours of wood can slightly vary.

We take pride in using sustainably sourced harvested hard-wood for our products. Generic plastic tools just don’t feel the same!
